The residents of the village of Megali Panagia have filed a complaint of assault against the employees of the gold mines in Halkidiki. Activists report that the miners had vandalized a car in the centre of the village first and rushed into the house of a local resident later.

According to their representative, the cause for and the perpetrators of a very large percentage of fires have not been established whereas, at the same time, 9 out of every 10 fires are caused by man.

The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance in Russia has imposed, as of 15 July this year, temporary restrictions on the import of dairy and meat products manufactured in Greece.

Four meetings against the expected cuts are currently being held in Athens. Thousands of people in the centre of Athens are chanting slogans against the policy of Antonis Samaras' government. (updated at 14.50)
