Pieria is a town in the district of Attica, on the Aegean coast near Athens. Practically, it is a part of Athens but its citizens seem to prefer the definition "town" better. Pirea's most famous sights are the big ferry port and the small yacht port. Pirea's travelers port is the biggest in Europe and offers cruises to almost all Greek islands, as well as Italy and Turkey.

The small port is a charming romantic place. If you have to chose a place to eat in Pieria, it has to be there. At the waterside you can find many restaurants and bars where you can take your beloved. After a lunch in Pieria, you can head to Paleo Faliro where you can see Karaiskaki Stadium. It was named after Georgios Karaiskakis, a hero from the Greek independence war. In 2004 it was entirely taken down and built all over for the summer Olympic Games. The renovation was completed in the record time of 14 months. Now the stadium ha 33,334 seats, 40 VIP areas fitting 472 people, press-conference hall with 10 seats, 200 journalist seats, a mall with coffee houses, restaurants, stores, gym and a museum dedicated to the history of Olympiacos team- the team of Pieria, which has rented the stadium from 2005 to 2052.

After having visited the stores you can continue on "Poseidon" Avenue that goes along the sea and it will take to the farthest south areas of Athens. Before getting on "Poseidon" you can visit the Stadium of Peace and Friendship, part of the Olympic complex where the beach volleyball playground is located. Interesting sight on "Poseidon" Avenue is the tram, designed by the Ferrari company and also launched for the Olympic games in 2004.

When you reach Glyfada you should definitely see the Olympic Sailing Complex from where you can also view the port. In Glyfada you can also find boutiques of world-known designers and local fashion experts so a shopping tour would surely add something new to your wardrobe. If you go on "Poseidon" in the other direction you will reach the neighborhood Voula where a left on "Vari" will get you to one of the best flower stores in Athens. The variety is wide and the service-excellent.

Poseidon's Temple-located on a steep rock, cutting into the sea, called Sounio nose. It is located 69 kilometers south of Athens center. The excavations have proved that the sacred temple dates back to 700 BC. "Sounio Sanctuary" was first mentioned in Homer's "Odyssey" as the place where Menelaus stopped on his way back from Troy to berry his soldier Onetrodius. The temple construction had started in 500 BC but never finished, after the Persians destroyed it in 480 BC. The temple as it can be seen today was built in 444 BC on the ruins.
