On your way to Kifissia you can visit the neighborhood of Kaisarani. It is a suburb of Athens, located 7 kilometers away from the center. Kaisarani was founded in 1922 as a camp for Asia Minor fugitives. In the neighborhood you can find a monastery hidden in the forests of Ymittos Mountain. It was built in 11th century on the foundations of a 6th- century church, surrounded by a wall. When you are there, don't miss the 17th-century wall writings, a great example of Greek religious art. The monastery is a part of the Esthetic Forest, where in Kalopoula you can have a coffee or eat, just have in mind that the place closes at 18:00.
Kifissia is the luxury northern suburb of Athens, where you can enjoy a rich flora and fresh air during the summer heats. Tourists mainly visit the neighborhood for its stores, known to be the most expensive ones in Athens. Another attraction in Kifissia is riding a phaeton along its picturesque lanes and observing the famous Show of the Flowers. It takes place every year between April 29 and May 17 in Kifissia Park. Producers from all around Greece take part, presenting more that 50 species of flowers. Over 100 stalls offer advice on how to turn you home, garden or balcony in a flower-paradise.
