There is still no result in the investigation for the discovery and arrest of the four perpetrators, who yesterday morning killed 54-year-old Dimitris Mihas in the town of Naoussa on the island of Paros. He tried to stop them escape from the branch of Alpha Bank, which they had robbed shortly before that.

Since yesterday, a specialized team of employees of the "Security" Service - Attica has been on the island of Paros, and a Greek police helicopter, police dogs, motorized police officers from Attica and the neighbouring islands are also taking part in the investigation.

The security cameras recordings, which have filmed everything going on both inside and outside the bank, are also expected to help significantly.

According to sources, one of the perpetrators, who can be seen more clearly than the others, looks like the man who shot ten times in the air during the robbery on the island of Spetses on 16 July, and perhaps is the one who shot Dimitris Mihas.

The incident happened yesterday morning, shortly after the opening of Alpha Bank’s branch in Naoussa on Paros island, at about 8.20. Three perpetrators, having concealed their faces with hats and sunglasses, which is quite common at this time of day on the islands, entered the bank to rob it.

They threatened the teller with a gun and stole a yet unknown amount (according to initial data, it is between 35,000 to 45,000 euro) and headed to the car in which the fourth accomplice was waiting for them with a started engine.

Dimitris Mihas stood on their way out of the bank.

The taxi stand is located just a few metres from the bank and the professional driver immediately realized what had happened.

According to sources, he drove towards them to prevent them from escaping.

Then criminals, without hesitation, pointed the gun at him and killed him on the spot with two bullets in the head.

Then the perpetrators escaped by car, which is found shortly after burned near Ambela, on the island of Paros.

According to initial data, the car was rented in Athens, and now the investigation is starting from there. On whose behalf was the black car hired? What data are filled in the respective form? When and how has it arrived on the island of Paros from Athens?

According to police, all scenarios are open.

The recordings from the bank's cameras and those from the surrounding shops, the testimony of people who attended the daring robbery, which ended with a murder, the data from the car rental bureau, as well as an inflatable boat, discovered on the island of Naxos, which, however, has not been connected with the robbery yet, are now under the authorities' microscope.

Investigating officers believe that if the perpetrators have left the island of Paros, they have done it immediately, therefore the investigation is extended to the surrounding Cycladic islands, Antiparos, Syros, Mykonos, and the smaller isles where there are a lot of deserted beaches.

The emphasis is more on the island of Naxos, since the place where the robbers' burned car was found is located near it.

However, experts also examine the opposite scenario, the thieves to have wanted to confuse the authorities and to be hiding in a villa or a farm nearby, waiting for the police to loosen their grip.

The police are investigating a possible link to the robbery on the island of Spetses

In mid-July, three men and a woman armed with handguns, rushed into a branch of Alpha Bank on the island of Spetses. They grabbed the money, took two employees as hostages and escaped by a motorboat left on a deserted beach on the island.

The perpetrators, who besides being well organized, also seem to have know how much money there is in the bank, reached to the beach in Porto Heli and burned the boat.

Despite the persecution, organized by the police immediately after the robbery, the thieves managed to escape.

There are many similarities but also differences between the two robberies. In the first one, on the island of Spetses, there was a woman among the perpetrators, while the robbery on the island of Paros didn’t involve a female presence. Also, the thieves then escaped by motorcycles, and in yesterday's robbery by car.

Nevertheless, perpetrators' "professionalism" in both cases, the fact that they select islands, as well as the burning of the vehicle of escape, are common features in both attacks.

What do Dimitris Mihas's friends and acquaintances say about him

"Hardworking and eloquent. Customers were looking for him only"

Born in Athens, but having chosen to connect his life with the island of Paros, where he had lived for many years.

Dimitris Mihas was born in February 1958 and went to school in the Athenian district of Kifissia. As he himself states on his Facebook page, he graduated in 1975. Then he moved to the island of Paros. He settled down in Ambela where, ironically, the burned vehicle of the offenders was found. He intended to live in Naoussa until the end of his days.

"We worked together, he as a driver in the last 4-5 years", says Yiannis Petropoulos, owner of the taxi, with which 54-year-old Mihas had worked. "Industrious and eloquent, no matter whatever troubled him in his personal life. Customers were looking for him only. Such a good impression he made them", says Petropoulos.

According to sources, the professional taxi driver has a child from his first marriage. He had a second marriage to Vangelia Domazou, a daughter of the famous former football international Dimitris Domazos and the unforgettable singer Vicky Mosholiou. Recently, however, they have lived separated.
