According to sources, the parliament speaker, Zoe Konstantopoulou, has been trying to put a spanner in the parliamentary works before the vote on the agreement with creditors.

Mrs. Konstantopoulou is expected to convene a meeting of the parliamentary party and committee leaders this evening (at 21.30 h.) to decide whether parliament will open tomorrow.

Parliamentary committees are likely to start their meetings on Thursday morning, rather than on Wednesday as the PM wanted, and will finish their procedures on Thursday evening. Thereafter, they will hold a plenary session and vote on the draft agreement at midnight on 13 August.

Earlier on, in a letter to the parliament speaker, Alexis Tsipras asked for the immediate convocation of MPs to set off the process of ratifying the agreement reached with the creditors. The Greek PM highlights how critical the situation is, and insists that the procedure be completed during the session on Thursday, 13 August.

Meanwhile, according to sources, SYRIZA spokesman Nikos Phillis made a string of phone calls seeking party leaders' agreement on convening parliamentary speakers at noon today, rather than in the evening, to catch up on time, even if Mrs Konstantopoulou were absent.

In parallel with that, 12 out of the 20 party group and committee leaders have dispatched a letter to the parliamentary speaker with a request to speed up the process.

Cabinet members have also denounced Konstantopoulou's shenanigans. Given her attempts to put hurdles before every legislative initiative, Mrs Konstantopoulou now appears in an open war with the prime minister.
