The year was hard and difficult, presenting Greece with many challenges that allowed politicians, financiers and rulers as well as artists, public figures, sportsmen and ordinary people to express themselves. Therefore, we asked whom you would choose to be Greece's person of the year. Our readers' preferences are diverse, with Yiannis Stournaras standing out among his strong competitors and winning the highest percentage of the readers' votes. He ranks first on the Bulgarian and English language pages of the website and third in the Greek version. Let us follow the ranking in detail.

On the Bulgarian page, Yiannis Stournaras has 33% of the readers' votes. Bulgaria's Corporate Commercial Bank collapsed during the year and readers of this language page are aware of the consequences of a bank bankruptcy. Unlike Bulgaria, the Governor of the Bank of Greece obviously has done a professional job to win people's sympathy, and indeed amidst the serious and complex banking crisis, which is influenced by the overall economic crisis. Undoubtedly, the eventual collapse of the banking system of Greece would have more serious consequences for the state and ordinary Greeks. The grandmothers of Lesbos and all who save and help refugees on the islands are second in the ranking with 21%. These humane acts by ordinary people show that empathy and the ability to help people in need are the pillars of society. With 18% of votes, our readers rank Alexis Tsipras third, for having won the parliamentary elections twice and the referendum in July. Close behind him with 16% of readers' votes is former Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis, who showed what a hard line means in negotiations with creditors. 6% goes to the organizers of the protests ‘We stay in Europe" and 4% to Sakis Rouvas and his charity work in favour of disadvantaged children. The last 2% of the votes of the readers of GRReporter's Bulgarian page go to Nick Kirgios and his successful start in professional tennis.

Readers of the English-language page of our website even express a higher opinion of the activity of Yiannis Stournaras and 37% of them prefer him as Greece's person of the year. The grandmothers of Lesbos and all who save and help refugees on the Greek islands again rank second, as again 21% of readers of this language page have voted for those ordinary people who show their compassion. The rest of the ranking is similar to that on the Bulgarian page - Alexis Tsipras is the preference of 17% of readers and Yanis Varoufakis of 11%. Thus they again rank third and fourth in the selection of Greece's person of the year. The organizers of the protest "We stay in Europe" have a higher evaluation and 9% of votes whereas Sakis Rouvas and his charity to help disadvantaged children gains 2% of votes.

The voting is different on the Greek page of the website. The compassionate grandmothers of Lesbos and all people on the Greek islands who save and help refugees are preferred for Greece's person of the year with 32%. The second place goes to Yanis Varoufakis, who wins 26% of the readers' votes because of his hard line in negotiations with creditors. Third is Governor of the Bank of Greece Yiannis Stournaras who did not allow the Greek economy to totally collapse. He is the preference of 23% of our Greek readers. Alexis Tsipras has 10% for his two election victories and for the referendum held in July. 6% of readers believe that the organizers of the protest "We stay in Europe" deserve the person of the year award.

The last poll of the year is ‘throwing’ a bridge to the coming New Year, asking you, "What do you expect from 2016?" Remember to present arguments for your vote in the comments section below the poll.
