An unexploded war mine killed an officer and wounded two soldiers in Evros

One officer was killed and two soldiers were wounded during an operation to neutralize unexploded ammunitions in the area of the military testing ground near the village of Lavara in the region of Evros (north-eastern Greece).

The one who perished was an officer in the Greek army. The two wounded soldiers were transported to the hospital in Didimotiho.

The official statement of the General Staff of the Greek Army states that it was an explosion of ammunitions. They exploded at 10:30 am today during a planned procedure for their destruction.

The three men had been taken to the hospital in Didimotiho where the officer perished despite the efforts of the doctors to save him.

The case is already being officially inspected. The political and military leadership of the Defence Ministry expressed its condolences to the family of the victim.
