Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has initiated attempts to reach an agreement with creditors at the last moment. The government seems ready to step back from last night's resounding "no" of the Prime Minister to the proposal of European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

The change in his position is due to pressure from the European institutions, the opposition, but also to SYRIZA’s MPs and MEPs in combination with the difficult situation caused by the closure of banks. The responses of SYRIZA’s representatives began yesterday and continued today, hours before the 6-month extension of the bailout programme expires.

According to the sources, the government has already sent to Brussels the message that it is reconsidering the proposal that Jean-Claude Juncker presented last night. The main measures envisaged in it include a proposal to settle the Greek government debt in October.

According to the European sources, by midnight the Greek Prime Minister must send a letter to the European Commission President, Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, stating that Alexis Tsipras accepts the proposal of creditor institutions as it was presented on Sunday. The only change in it will affect the aid for low pensions. In addition, Tsipras will have to pledge his support for the positive vote in the referendum that he has called for this coming Sunday.
