Today, an extraordinary meeting of the union of civil servants ADEDI was held, attended by federations which are involved in it, in order to be decided whether protest actions should be intensified.

On Thursday, 29 August, the trade union of civil servants ADEDI will go on strike and will held a protest meeting in Athens against the programme for massive lay-offs of state employees.

In an announcement, ADEDI talked about "the continuing wave of lay-offs of tens of thousands of civil servants carried out by the government" stressing that it would not sit idle watching the "death" of civil servants and "carnage" of lay-offs.

On Friday, 30 August, ADEDI main board will meet in order to take decisions on protests in September.

On Skai TV, President of the Federation of employees in secondary education Themis Kotsifakis talked about protests of teachers in September, even in the case of political mobilisation by the government.

Changes in the public sector caused a storm of reactions in the union of civil servants ADEDI, which will reach its peak at the opening of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition on 7 September.
