Three people were killed and 14 injured after a head-on collision between a truck and a tourist bus on the old highway between Veria and Thessaloniki. Witnesses argue the driver of the truck lost control of the machine and passed into oncoming traffic, where it swept the bus away. The accident happened on the 45th kilometer of the old highway between Thessaloniki and Veria at 10.20 am.

There were about 50 people in the bus, mostly pensioners and children who went to camp. The two drivers of the bus and their assistant, who was a priest, perished. There is no official information how many are injured, but mass media reported for at least 14 people, among them 5 children aged between 2 and 17 years. The injured people were hospitalized in Veria and the medical center of Alexandria in Imatia region.

30 firefighters and eight ambulances are involved in the rescue activities

There is an increased incidence of traffic accidents on this section of the road, where the crash occurred, and is marked as dangerous.
