Over 7,000 people gathered in Syntagma Square in central Athens, in response to the call for participation in the rally against the ‘only possible path of austerity’.

The appeal for participation in the rally was made by SYRIZA, the Civil Servants' Confederation ADEDY, the Organisation of Communist Internationalists in Greece, the radical left organisation ANTARSIA, the Panhellenic Federation of local authorities employees, etc.

The Federation of Tax Officials, the Federation of Teachers in Secondary Education, and the Federation of Unions of editors have already claimed participation, with the number of joining organisations still growing.

"Democracy can not be blackmailed, dignity is not subject to bargaining", says SYRIZA’s address, adding that:

“We, the workers, the unemployed, the youth, the Greek people, and all other nations in Europe as well, today make it clear that we oppose the allegedly one and only possible road of austerity, we stand against the blackmail and the atmosphere of fear. We are fighting for our lives and our children's future. We are fighting for a Europe of democracy and solidarity."

"We participate in the trade union rally on Sunday, 21 June, in Syntagma Square, and we remain adamant in our fight to end the austerity measures and to preserve our country’s dignity", says the address in conclusion.
