Yesterday at 09:40PM four terrorists on motorcycles shot with machine guns at policemen in the police station in Aghia Paraskevi. Six policemen are injured and currently in the hospital. One man passing by on the street at the same time went into shock and is also in the hospital.

The terrorists got off their motorcycles in close proximity to the police station, took out their machine guns and shot tens of bullets at the policemen. Most severely injured is a woman from the special forces, in critical condition are the guard of the police station, two special forces policemen returning to the station and another two policemen. One of the policemen had to go into surgery in “Red Cross” hospital and right now he is in the ER.

During the investigation three motorcycles were found, which were abandoned close to the Halandri metro station and it is presumed that they belong to the terrorists. The minister of civil protection Mihalis Hrisohoidis, higher police officers, antiterrorist teams and experts from the Criminal Investigations Division arrived at the crime scene right away.

Spread at the crime scene are tens of bullets, which belong to a Kalashnikov weapon. The expertise results will show whether the same weapons were used in older terrorist attacks. During the last few years, two similar terrorist attacks took place – one of them was by the terrorist organization “Revolutionary Fight” in April 2007 and the other one by “The Revolutionary Sect” at the beginning of February, 2009.

Minister Hrisohoidis informed PM Georgios Papandreou about the attack right away and after that headed to the “Red Cross” hospital. Minister of health Mariliza Xenoyanakopoulou also arrived at the hospital. Mr. Hrisohoidis characterized the attack as “unmanly, murderous and 100% terrorist” and assured that he will act “right away with decisiveness.”

“The cowardly murderers will be arrested and given to the court,” also said Mr. Hrisohoidis and added that “Democracy cannot be a subject of terror”. The minister also noted that “blind violence against 20 year old children is disgusting and terrible” and sent an appeal to all citizens to unite and protect democracy.

Many politicians form all parties offered moral support to the injured policemen by arriving at the hospital. President Karoloc Papoulyas, who is in Thessaloniki for the national holiday celebration today, sharply judged the attack against the police station.

The terrorist attack happened hours after the police announced a €600 000 reword for any information about the three criminals, who call themselves “black robbers”. Based on DNA tests taken from the crime scene, it is believed that the three “black robbers” are involved in a terrorist organization.
