Tennis tournament for men STATUS Athens Open 2010 already started

World known names participate in this year's tennis tournament for men STATUS Athens Open 2010. The tournament, which belongs to the category of ATP Challenge Tour is held for the third time in the Greek capital. This year ts host is Olympic sports complex OAKA.

Traditionally, in the tournament take part players who want to accumulate points and take high positions in world rankings. Atf the ATP Challenger show up the future champions in tennis. It is from this kind of tournaments that they have begun to conquer the tops world famous players such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Pete Sambras.

Two of the top ranked athlete in the world participate in the STATUS Athens Open 2010. These are players Benjamin Becker and Phillip Petzschner. Benjamin Becker takesthe 39th place in the world individual rating of the ATP ranking. In the professional category he competed in 2005 and up to now he has managed to win 1.5 million dollars. Last year, Becker won the ATP Tour title for U.S. $ 500 000 in the Netherlands. Again in 2009 he won the tournament Aegean Cup in Rhodes island.

Phillip Petzschner is 26-year-old tennis player from Germany, which currently takes 49th place in the individual rating of the world ATP ranking. In 2008 he won the ATP title in Vienna for 600 000 dollars. Both athletes enter the rankings of 32 best players in the tournament ATP Master Series Monte Carlo.

In STATUS Athens Open 2010 the Swiss Marco Chiudinelli will be also compete, who is 57th in the world ranking. Chiudinelli is in the national team of Davis Cup - Switzerland together with Roger Federer

The next promising name from the 9 of the top 100 participating in the tournament this year is Lucas Lacko. The 22 years old Slovak is an especially reliable player who recently passed in the category of professionals. Lacko currently takes 60th place in the world rankings, but it is a matter of time to enter in the Top 50.

Israel will participate with competitor DudI Sela, who in July last year, took 29th place in the world ranking.

The next international celebrity, who will participate in the tournament is Karol Beck. Beck is 28-years old member of the Davis Cup - Slovakia. In 2005 he took 36th place in the world rankings.

33-years-old Germans Rainer Schuettler is the greatest and richest athlete in the group of the Top 9. His income from tennis recently reached $ 7 million. The strongest competitive year for the athlete is the year of 2004, when he became 5th in the world. In 2003 the German participated in the finals of the Australian Open, but was defeated by Agassi.

Xavier Malisse is one of the Belgium hopes in tennis. Him and Rochus became the first Belgian to win the tournament title in Grand Slam. Strongest year for Malisse was 2002 when took 19th place in the world.

Yen Hsun Lu is another promising player. Born in Taipei, and aims to become the first Chinese in the world to enter the top 10. Last year Lu took 55th position in world rankings.

At the tennis courts of OAKA with a Wild Card are also playing some of the best Greek tennis players - Todoros Angelinos, Konstantinos Ikonomidis, Alexandros Yakubovich. Today in the Prequalification matches are taking part Paris Gemuhidis, Harris Kapoyanis, Nikos Serkedakis, Konstantinos Mikos, Dimitris Lukareas and Alexandros Georgudas as well as the Bulgarian Valentin Dimov.

Prequalification matches will last from Saturday to Sunday (17:04 to 18:04) and from Monday to Sunday (19.04-25.04) will be held and the other phases of the tournament.

Games start every day from 14.00h. and end at 21.00h.
