A girl of Greek origin is in coma, after she and her friends were poured with petrol and torched in an alleged satanic ritual near Johannesburg in South Africa. According to Samantha Teologou, her 18-year-old sister Kirstie has 75% burns on the upper part of the body and the face. Currently, the girl is struggling to stay alive, but doctors are not optimistic about her recovery, because her throat and lungs are damaged seriously.

The two girls, 18 and 16 years old, in the company of at least six young people, went to a hill behind the Linmeyer swimming pool in the South African city last Friday. According to Samantha, the members of the company - five boys and three girls, and her sister - knew each other very well and Kirstie often came out with them. One of the boys lived in the neighbourhood and the house of one of the other girls was on the same street. Moreover, according to teenagers, the young people know the particular hill well and love to sit there and enjoy the view while having a drink during the weekend.

Another girl who is recovering in a private hospital informed Kirstie's family that the boys from the company had decided to sacrifice them in some sort of a satanic ritual. "We do not know what happened. We learned that they were tied, but we know nothing else," says Samantha.

It is believed that the boys had poured gasoline on her sister and torched her. Kirstie's friend tried to extinguish the flames by wallowing her in the sand. In an attempt to save her, she was also set on fire. The other members of the group fled and left the two girls to come down the hill alone.

"Despite her condition, my sister was still able to move to a safe place." Kirstie walked the entire distance of two miles to Rosetenville where she lives.

"I was not at home, but our mother told me she found my sister washing her face in the bathroom. She told me that it was terrifying."

According to hospital sources, requesting anonymity, both girls were taken to South Rand hospital by their pastor and then, they were sent to other hospitals. "It was impressive that they walked all the time, despite their condition." He told that the third girl had told him how the boys had cut her hand and held it above the Bible in order the blood to leak into it and torched Kirstie at the same time.

The spokesman of the local police station Captain Pinky Tsingane said the girls had been tied up in an alleged satanic ritual, and that investigation of the case, which was defined as attempted murder, continued. According to Tsingane, late last night two boys aged 19 and 21 surrendered to the police station in Buyssens.

Kirstie's family is shocked. "What happened to my sister is horrible, scary and terrifying. My mother is not well and unable to speak. Our friends are crushed. Kirstie is in the 11th grade and has many friends who love her. This is a nightmare," says Samantha.

Isabella Little, a member of the teenagers advising forum Lifetalk, said that Satanism was not among the topics discussed at the meeting. A year ago, a mother called in the forum to seek advice for her daughter who had been kidnapped in Cape Town and brought in something like a church, where another teenager was killed. The girl managed to escape, but was seriously injured.
