Presidential candidate Stavros Dimas has put an end to the scenarios that he will be elected to high office by the votes of Golden Dawn MPs. Dimas has stressed that he will not accept to be elected with the votes of the extreme nationalist party.

"As a sign of respect for democratic institutions I will not accept being elected president of Greece with the votes of Golden Dawn", Stavros Dimas said clearly and firmly.

"The brief and firm statement by Stavros Dimas regarding Golden Dawn is to his credit and emphasizes the morality of democracy", Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos commented in response to a journalist's question.

Earlier, Dora Bakogiannis warned before Skai TV that many members of New Democracy will prefer to abstain from voting during the decisive third ballot next Monday if it is established that Golden Dawn is preparing to support Stavros Dimas.

"New Democracy cannot allow such a phenomenon", stressed Dora Bakogiannis, noting that the very presidential institution will not be "as prestigious as it should be" if Stavros Dimas is elected thanks to the votes of "a party that is accused of criminal activity."

Similar was the statement by Minister of Administrative Reform Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who said he will abstain from voting if Golden Dawn votes 'for' in the third round.

With two statements within a few hours, Golden Dawn in turn has firmly denied all publications, according to which the party will support candidate Stavros Dimas in the third round. The votes of the 16th party MPs "will destroy Samaras-Venizelos’ memorandum hovel," reads the latest statement by Golden Dawn.
