The name of a five-year old child that died in Canada was on the passport of the Greek- Canadian Robert Christopher Metsos, who was accused of espionage by the United States. He disappeared in Cyprus after local authorities have seized him at the airport but later released him on bail. Cypriot police expects a document from the Prosecutor regarding the request of U.S. authorities to be handed the belongings of Metsos, said Cypriot Minister of Justice Lucas Luke.

Among the belongings of the escaped spy is a laptop and usb devices from which the Americans hope to obtain information about the relationship of Metsos with other ten people accused of spying who were arrested in the U.S. The personal belongings of the fugitive will be forwarded only if they have a connection with the case said Mr. Luke, stressing that “it is improper to give data related to private life.”

Minister of Justice of Cyprus requested a report on what have happened on the day when Metsos was captured on the airport to his disappearance. Currently Metsos is the most wanted man of the U.S. services with pending charges of espionage in favor of Russia. According to Mr. Luke the accused most likely has left Cyprus. The Greek and Cypriot mass media announced that Cyprus did not take the responsibility for the escape of Metsos and it was the Americans who have delayed to send the necessary documents that have not yet arrived, said the Minister of Justice, supported by the President Dimitris Hristofyas.

At the same time it becomes more clear how the arrested with charges of espionage lived and acted. Several hours after being arrested Juan Lazaro has confessed he was working for the Russian secret services but refused to reveal his true identity. However, he said that he was not born in Uruguay or in Peru, as he has stated sometimes. According to the U.S. he had lived in Siberia for some time when he was a child.

According to the investigation more than USD 100,000, many mobile phones and foreign currency, invisible ink, fake passports and other “spyware tools” were found in the house of Richard and Cynthia Murphy. According to Moscow newspapers the scandal which the U.S. Secret Services and the media released is “weird” and is full of questions. Many of the long reports stated this time it is very difficult to take the “evidences” published by the federal agencies for serious.

Moscow and Washington attempt to dispel the accumulated strain on high level. “We hope to explain us” (why they were arrested) said from Jerusalem the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrof. “But the moment to do this was selected skillfully,” he added. Typical is the laconic reply “Thank you!” of the U.S. President Barack Obama to persistent questions on the case. For his part, Philip Gordon said that “our goal is to continue to develop the relations with Russia and we can look at the spy scandal from that perspective.”
