The basketball team of Marousi opened a black page in its history. Bad turn forced the Euroleague to take serious measures and to...revoke the license of the team to participate in the tournament qualifications despite its last year's European success. The Euroleague proceeded to this unpleasant decision because Marousi has not sent the documents necessary for participation. The position of the organizers is clear. A team that has not a license to participate even in A1 can not take part in the championship. And because according to the provisions of the championship no other team can replace it, the Ukrainian Budivelnyk will advance automatically to the second round.

So, what the team has achieved during the last season remains only a beautiful memory of the past. The coach George Bardzokas who resigned is also a memory of the past. The next who resigned after him was the director of the sports department Stavros Elinadis. "Even moral commitments that I had to players who came into the team this summer have exhausted. I felt compelled to fight until the last moment only because of them"- said Stavros Eliniadis, trying to explain the reasons for his act. "We tried to send a SOS signal with Mr. Bardzokas but unfortunately it was already too late when those who had to hear it heard it. I would like to believe that Marousi will get out from the dark tunnel and will be able to find its way, because this team was an example in the last decade not only of its way of working, but also of sports performance.”

What is happening with the team is sad and pathetic. Marousi is about to perish after two very strong sports seasons when it won the third place in the Greek Championship and ranked in the TOP 16 of the Euroleague. And the management is not able to change the things. The players of the team did not remain impassive. Most of them decided to leave. Major players of the team have also left. The first was Zisis Sarikopoulos, who signed with Panyonios. The recent events worried the representative of Mamudu Diarra who even visited the offices of the team.

This is not the end of the problems. The club owes its players and they decided not to train thus protesting against the unpaid salaries.
