Shipping owner Makis Yiannousakis, aged 40, his ex-wife and owner of the house in Filothei where half a ton of heroin was found last Thursday and her 46-year-old friend were sent to detention after the interrogation before the investigator in Piraeus. Another half a ton was discovered in a warehouse in the region of Koropi. The wife’s mother, aged 73, and the housekeeper from Bulgaria, aged 58, testified along with them. Late last night they were released with no restrictions being imposed on them. It is expected that the other persons detained in connection with the case, namely five Turkish citizens, will be questioned today.

The preliminary file on the case of the discovered heroin, the amount of which exceeds one ton, contains documents and invoices showing that the persons involved in the network were going to send it to Western Europe.

On 4 June, eight days before their apprehension, they hired the warehouse in Koropi where they packed the drug in bags for marble dust. At the same time, an invoice shows that, on 10 June, Turkish citizen V.A, aged 31, deposited 500 euro for the purchase of a black Mercedes jeep, by which the traffickers transported the heroin from the house in Filothei to the warehouse in Koropi.

The judicial authorities also have an invoice for the purchase of a forklift by which the drug was loaded on trucks to transport it to Belgium. This is evidenced by the purchase invoice issued on 10 June at the expense of a company based in the city of Charleroi. On 11 June, an invoice was issued on behalf of the same company for the purchase of marble dust in which the traffickers had intended to hide the heroin. In addition, the bill for the stay of members of the network in a luxury hotel in the seaside suburb of Vouliagmeni was paid in another Belgian town, Limburg.

The documents in question contain the name of a man of Turkish origin or of a Turkish citizen who is not among those detained. It is not yet clear whether he is a member of the network. In his report, the person in charge of the operation, namely the head of the police department of the Coast Guard in Piraeus, reveals that the Belgian citizen of Turkish origin S.B., aged 44, who is defined as the head of the network, contacted the owner of the luxury Plaza Resort hotel in Athens, offering him to redeem it for the amount of 20 million euro. In addition, he asked the hotel owner "to book and issue a ticket to a driver and truck that would arrive from Belgium to load the drug hidden among a cargo of marble dust."
