The bill, which was submitted for consideration by the Ministry of Education, provides for significant changes in secondary education. They will be implemented as of the 2013-2014 school year for students who will be in the first grade of secondary school.

In particular, in this grade, students will study only general subjects (9 subjects, a total of 33 hours per week), and the system of coursework (the so-called projects) will also be introduced, the duration of which will be 2 hours. Elective courses for high school students from the first grade will include Applied Informatics, Technology and Use of Natural resources, and Exposure, Culture and European Culture.

The second high school grade will include 10 general subjects with a total duration of 30 hours. In parallel, students will study in one of two orientation groups the duration of which will be 5 hours. One group will include lessons in humanities (Greek and Latin), and the second group - math and physics. The repeal of the technological direction of the didactic programme will annul classes in chemistry and technology of communication.

In the third high school grade, the number of general subjects will decrease from 11 to 5, and students will be able to choose a new orientation group - financial, political and social sciences.

The deadline for selecting the scientific direction for students from the last high school grade is 10 October. Until then, students must choose two scientific fields. The first scientific field includes humanitarian, legal and social sciences, the second one - natural and technical sciences, the third one - health sciences, and the fourth one - economics, management and political science.

At the examinations for entry into tertiary level, students will sit for exams in 4 subjects, and not 6, as before. The topics will be determined as follows: 50% by the IT exam bank and 50% by the Central Examining Board. The evaluation will take into account the average marks of test scores at the completion of the three high school grades.
