One of the runaways from the prison in Trikala was among the participants in the robbery and the subsequent shooting in Isthmia near Corinth, during which a woman, aged 25, was shot dead.

So far, his accomplices are still unknown.

The perpetrator is Albanian citizen Marco Kolas, aged 36, who had been captured after a heavy shooting in the Athens neighbourhood of Vironas in the past. There was an innocent victim again, but it was a police bullet that had killed the man then.

Around 9 pm on Friday night, three people had broken into a tavern near Paleokoundoura along the old Athens – Thebes road. They disarmed the owner and threatened his wife and a friend of theirs with guns and Kalashnikovs.

Then, they took the money of the tavern owner and the cash register and tried to lock the three victims in the water closet but the owner spoiled their plans by pretending that he was losing consciousness. Then, the three attackers left in his jeep. The authorities had immediately organized a campaign to capture them.

Shortly after 11:20 pm, the police saw the jeep moving on the Athens - Corinth highway shortly after Kineta. The attackers turned to Isthmia towards Epidaurus. A pursuit and shooting between them and the security forces followed.

At the same time, the 25-year-old woman was travelling in the opposite direction. One of the bullets ricocheted, passed through the car’s bumper and the seat, thus seriously injuring the woman.

According to sources, she was going home to Corinth, returning from the hotel where she was working. At the time of the wounding, she was talking on her cell phone with her boyfriend, who called the ambulance. Somehow, the woman was able to call her boss at the accounting department of the hotel and told her that she had been shot.

The woman was taken to the hospital in Corinth but despite the efforts of doctors to save her life, she perished shortly after midnight.

In an official message, the police declare, "the bullet, which caused the injuries and the subsequent death of the woman, aged 25, had been fired from the attackers’ Kalashnikov machine gun." Moreover, their shots caused serious damage to eight patrol cars.

The police have revealed Kolas’ identity with the help of a fingerprint that he and his accomplices had left in the tavern, which they had robbed. The authorities have found the stolen vehicle in a field near the village of Solomos near Corinth and taken it to the police laboratory to examine it. The campaign for the capture of the heavily armed criminals continues.
