Thousands of Greeks have flocked to central Athens Syntagma Square to firmly declare that Greece belongs to the European Union and the euro area. Young people, adults, men, women and children have come out to show there is another Greece - Greece that is working, creating, producing gross domestic product and succeeding despite the crisis.

Unlike yesterday’s spiritless presence of the supporters of SYRIZA, today the atmosphere in the square is completely different, very dynamic. The people are chanting, whistling, discussing, they are enthusiastic and banners reading "Yes to the E.U.", "Greece of entrepreneurship", "Greece, Democracy, Europe", "Public recruitments = recession", "No to another Waterloo, we remain in the euro" are standing out among the sea of people.

Although it is getting late, not only are the people not leaving but many more are also arriving.

Deputies of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Adonis Georgiadis are among those attending the demonstration as well as president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce Konstantinos Michalos.

The demonstration is taking place in the shadow of another failed attempt to reach an agreement between Greece and its creditors at the level of the Eurogroup that has sent a firm message to Greece’s Minister of Finance Yanis Varoufakis that his country must get back to reality.

All eyes are now turned towards Monday, 22 June and the summit of the euro zone countries.
