Consequences of the protests have been particularly noticeable in the economy, while farmers have left their tractors on the highways, they appear for a few hours on the spot and their trade union leaders only come in times for TV news broadcasts. During the rest of the time police protect tractors, and in Tirnavo an insurance company was hired to care for the abandoned vehicles. Nevertheless the government is decided to persuade farmers to lift their blockades through dialogue.

Farmers are committed to squeeze the patience out of the state and the public - they are continuing their blockades and on Saturday they announced the nine requests they have to the Ministry of Agriculture, which retains its firm position that there are no more money in the treasury!

Protests throughout the country are continuing for twenty days after the political leadership of the Ministry of Agricultural, Development and Food failed to find a common language and reach an agreement with the farmers. The last meeting between politicians and the strikers took place on Friday, continued well for hours and led to the alliance of farmers from Thessaly and Macedonia, who formulated their demands in nine points on Saturday.

The demands were supported by farmers participating in the blockades in Promahonas, Nikea, Malgara, Doyrani, Galatistas, Nea Triglias, Ormilia and Kalivia in Chalkidiki, Servion in Kozani, Pela, Pieria, Preveza, Evros, Euboea, Corfu, Chania, Egiou and Ermitsa Etoloakarnaniya.

It is expected that the farmers from the 14 blockades, who attended the meeting with Minister Katerina Badzeli on Friday will announce today their next steps, while continuing actively with the roadblocks. Farmers from Kastro Boeotia, near Athens, have already closed all roads roundabout.

Meanwhile, the Agrarian Union announced a rally of farmers and stock breeders at the statue of Eleftherios Venizelos in Thessaloniki, on the occasion of the International exhibition AGROTICA, which will be held between February 3 and 7. Requests to be raised by the rally are locking the lowest prices for all agricultural and animal products, eliminating tax on gasoline, cancelation of the division of farmers in major or profession in connection with the request to be paid subsidies.
