The Greek police have made public the names and photos of the Roma couple, who had pretended to be Maria’s parents.

The name of Maria’s alleged "father" is Christos Sali, born in the city of Larissa in 1974.

The woman has two ID cards with different data. According to one, her name is Eleftheria Dimopoulou, born in Trikala in 1973 and Selini Sali, born in Larissa in 1972 according to the other.

Both have been charged with kidnapping a minor, aged under 14 years, and with obtaining false certificates. ANA-MPA news agency in Athens reports that the woman will be taken to the prison in Korydallos and her husband to the prison in Larissa.

Sources claim that the man said in his testimony that he had been absent when the Roma man from Bulgaria and the biological mother of the child had come to his house to leave Maria. He had found the little girl there when he had returned after 15 days.

Christos Sali said he had not wanted the child to stay with them, bearing in mind his rich criminal record. His wife, however, had insisted on keeping Maria, as she "already loved her."

According to the police statement, by making their data public the authorities aim to protect the public, minors and vulnerable and disadvantaged social groups and to contribute towards the location and punishment of kidnappers of minors.
