The yellow-blacks won the match between the football teams of AEK and Panathinaikos played on OAKA Stadium in Athens. The team of AEK performed great tonight, its players were completely devoted to the play. Jiménez promise that he will look each player in the eyes individually and will ask him whether he has blood or water in his veins has taken its toll. It is apparent the Spaniard's approach is effective and his words touch the hearts of the players. Last night they did what he asked them to do. They tirelessly pursued goal positions and blocked the opponent. They even were not late achieving their goal. Dzhibur scored a quick goal to the greens still in the fourth minute. The 30 thousand people at the stadium that had not stopped to cheer up the beginning of the match were overjoyed.

In contrast to AEK, Panathinaikos definitely was not in shape. Moreover, its poor performance bred a lot of questions. The words of Nioplias sounded somehow strange at the press conference after the match. He was out of mood and did not comment. He said only that the team was not strong, did not play well and had no spirit.

AEK fully controlled the match and virtually paralyzed the movements of Panathinaikos. The greens failed to break through the yellow-black defense which really was like an invisible wall to the end of the match. Even Manolo Jiménez noted as successful the fact that Cisse made only one good attempt to score during the whole 90 minutes. AEK defense took care to make the Frenchman inoffensive. Some serious players were missing in the team and this was part of the reason for the greens’ failure. Leto, Ninis and the punished Govou were not on the field.

Luis Garcia attempted to score in the 41st minute but the ball hit the crossbar of the net. The first half ended with 1:0.

In the second half AEK was one step from the second goal. Djebbour headed the ball to the net of Tzorvas in the 48th minute but later it came out. The play of the greens improved slightly. They became more offensive and began to pursue goal chances. During the 69th minute Luis Garcia tried to score again but Saja saved the ball.

AEK had two more chances to score. Dzhibur attacked the net of Panathinaikos, but the ball went out. Lago made a goal attempt but Tzorvas was again on the line. Tzorvas performed really well unlike the last matches. After the match, Jiménez even called the goalkeeper the best player of Panathinaikos last night.

There was a lot of tension in the last minutes of the match as the greens decided to fight for their last chance to score. Gilberto Silva lost a good chance to score in the 84th minute. Immediately afterwards, Leonardo tried to score to Tzorvas but the latter was again invincible.
