Pilot died in collision of two military F-16 fighters

Two military F-16 collided south of Crete. Both aircrafts were Greek – block 52 plus type. The one was a single-seater and the other one – two-seater. Two pilots were saved and the body of the third pilot was found in a major rescue operation. Dead is the pilot of the single-seater aircraft. Critical is the condition of the 34-year-old pilot of the two-seater airplane as he has internal bleeding. He is hospitalized at the University Hospital in Heraklion, the central city of Crete. The legs of the other pilot are burned but his life is out of danger.

The incident occurred around 02.00 pm during a drill for enemy interception at low altitude. The fighters belong to the 115 air-force brigade based in Suda.

There is no official information about the reasons for the tragic incident so far.
