A weak blast exploded at noon in the building of the Swiss Embassy in the central Athens district of Kolonaki. The blast exploded after passers-by threw a package in the unguarded part of the yard of the Embassy. There is no evidence of injuries or major property damage. A bomb exploded in the building of the Embassy of Russia early in the afternoon.
A parcel of suspicious content received this morning and the Bulgarian Embassy in Athens. According to unofficial data from the Greek police, the name and contact details of the sender were written on the suspicious item. An official from the Embassy had contacted him but the man denied to having sent the package. Then the diplomats asked the police to check the consignment and bomb disposal experts are currently dealing with it. They refused from the Embassy to submit information on the case but the police cut off the area around the building. In Sofia, Foreign Ministry spokesman Vessela Cherneva confirmed that a Greek businessman, President of the Greek-Bulgarian Trade Association, is given as the sender of the consignment. However, he does not remember sending any such parcel, added Cherneva.
Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism service disposed explosive sent to the Embassy of Chile in Athens. The parcel has been identified in the city center and the controlled explosion was carried out in the courtyard of the Greek Parliament. Suspicious parcel was sent to the German Embassy, but it was stopped and disposed before reaching the diplomatic mission.
Parcel terrorism is raging a second day now in Athens. A package addressed to the Mexican Embassy exploded yesterday in the office of the Swift Mail courier company and the police defused another three parcels addressed to the Netherlands and Belgium Embassies and to the French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The Greek police are concerned about the fact that there was no prior telephone call for none of the parcels as is the practice of local terrorist organizations.
