The traffic on highways, ports, airports, train stations and bus stations increased dramatically and it was recorded that only on Great Thursday around 180 000 cars had left Athens. The toll stations at Elefsina, Afidnon and Zevgolatiou were blocked as a result of the traffic.

Kilometric lines were formed also this morning on Zevgolatiou, Elefsina, Shimatariou, and Afidnon and passing through the Artemisiou tunnel was hard. The road between Inofita and Shimatari on the Athens-Thessaloniki highway is under construction and drivers need to be very careful.

Traffic is heavy on both main highways but smaller roads are not less of a hassle. As an example we can tell you that at 12:30 pm the car queue on Elefsina was 5 kilometers. The Zevgolatiou toll station near Korinthos the queue was 7 kilometers and from time to time cars were let free, in order to lighten up the traffic.

The traffic police announced that on Good Friday, 102 000 cars have left the capital towards Peloponnese and another 76 000 towards Lamia, writes “Ta Nea” newspaper. Yesterday’s traffic is 4% more than the same time last year.

All bus stations have sold all their tickets and today more than 450 destinations will be served. All train tickets to Thessaloniki and Peloponnese are also sold out. The scheduled flights from the Athenian airport “Elefteros Venizelos” for today, Good Friday will reach 534. Until Monday, from and to Athens the flights will be 3 167, out of which 72 are charter flights and 22 will fly overtime. Full will be all ferries, which leave Athens for islands in the Aegean Sea and Crete.

The traffic police are working extra, in order to ensure the safe traffic. On Good Friday, between 06:00am and 04:00pm heavy weight vehicles (over 1.5 tons) will not be allowed to drive on roads leading out of the big cities. The same prohibition will be valid on Monday after Easter and heavy weight vehicles will not be allowed to drive on roads entering the big cities from 03:00pm to 10:00pm. There will be no prohibitions on Sunday.
