The Open Swimming Championship “Acropolis-Grad Prix” started in Athens

262 swimmers from 49 Greek sports clubs, athletes from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Albania, Serbia and Romania participate in the 23rd International Swimming Championship "Acropolis - Grand Prix". The championship is held in the Greek capital from May 14th until May 16th and it is the last chance for the athletes to compete for good results, and thus to qualify for the European Swimming Championship in Budapest. "Acropolis-Grand Prix" also gives the chance to boys and girls to qualify for the European Championship in Tambere.

Among the names of the participants in the "Acropolis" this year are those of Nora Dracou, Angeliki Ekzarhou, Mariana Liberta, Kelly Arauzou, Elvira Evstatiou and Maria Mihalaki. So far, with a result that qualifies for participation in the European Championship in August can boast only the champion of Europe in 50m.backstroke Aris Grigoriadis.

In "Acropolis" after a long absence from the sports scene due to serving of a two years sentence will appear also the swimmer Yiannis Drimonakos. Drimonakos will participate in the 200m. butterfly and 200m. individual medley style. Another important presence is that of Romanos Alifantis. Alifantis did not participate in the championship of Greece, which took place a week ago on the island of Corfu and is now fighting for a result  to qualify for the European Championship in Hungary.

Bulgaria participates with the athletes Simona Pantova and Dobromira Ivanova. Ivanova recently set a new national record in the senior girls in the course 50m. butterfly. The 16-years old athlete finished with a time of 29.55. In the "Acropolis - Grand Prix" Ivanova will compete in the disciplines 50m. and 100m. butterfly. Simona Pantova will participate in the struggle in 50m., 100m. and 200m. backstroke.

The first day of the tournament begins with 400 meters combined for men's and women, 50m. freestyle for men and women, 50m. breaststroke for women and men 800m. freestyle for women, 1500 meters freestyle for men. During the second day (Saturday, 15.05) will be held the qualifications and finals in 50m. backstroke for men and women, 50m. freestyle men and women, 50m. breaststroke for men and women, 100m. butterfly for men and women, 200m. backstroke for men and women, 200m. breaststroke for men and women, 200m. medley individual men and women and 200m. freestyle men and women. On Sunday will be held the finals in 50m. butterfly for men and women, 100m. freestyle for men and women, 100m. backstroke for men and women, 100m. breaststroke for men and women, 200m. butterfly for men and women and 400 meters. freestyle for men and women.
