Olympiakos basketball players prove weaker than their German opponent Bamberg and lost in Germany 61-73. The last evening performance of the white-reds showed they will have to work harder if they want to improve their team’s image. They will have to work harder and if they want to improve their position for the second round of the Euroleague. Something they could not do in Bamberg.

Olympiacos started the game hoping to win. It was trying to impose its own pace on the playground and thereby control the ball. The team even succeeded to take the lead for a while by scoring 5 points. The home team, however, drew the game with series of 7-2 and the first 10 minutes ended 16-16. Later it turned out that the visiting team could not achieve the goal it had set. The German team was a strong opponent and blocked its movements. Its defence was very strong and the white-red’s attacks more and more rarely brought points. It forced them to make many mistakes for which they paid a very high price. Soon they turned at bay and the score at the end of the first half was 34-28.

After the break Olympiakos showed a strong game again. Its massive attacks led to a change in the result and it reached 42-37. This did not last long. The home team did not give up and turned the outcome in its favour in no time. It followed its old plan and proceeded with a very strong attack improving the defence meanwhile. Bamberg regained its position of playground master just like in the first 20 minutes. It started the final 10 minutes with the insignificant lead of 50-47.

The visiting team failed to find its rhythm at the end of the match again. Papaloukas who was very active could not help his team. His team players did not help him substantially and it was impossible for him to turn the result alone. Teodosich’s unsuccessful attacks also influenced the game. The player missed numerous good chances to basket. The white-reds made many mistakes in the match with Bamberg. Even Spanoulis did not avoid them.

Towards the end the stress of loss was already apparent, while the home team felt increasingly closer to victory. It was already the winner four minutes before the end of the match. The difference in the outcome was 63-54, nearly 10 points.
