Partizan will be the opponent to the basketball team of Olympiakos in the quarterfinals for the Euro league which will be held on May 7^th to May 9^th in Paris. Olympiakos already has 1200 tickets for the Final Four, however the team will strive for a bigger number of tickets for its fans who would want to watch closely the emotions of the team. And the derby will definitely cause emotions as both teams have a tradition in the European basketball. Furthermore the Serbian team Partizan is famous for being “hard nut to crack”…

This years participation of the white and red team in the quarterfinals is for the sixth time in the history of the team and everybody would agree that the presence of Greece makes European basketball more interesting. The sports event also becomes more attractive and manages to motivate more and more teams to participate. There is no way we also miss the better view it offers. Due to the changes in the scheme for making the games the Euro league registers bigger interest on the part of the audience. This of course leads to the increase of the television viewers and a bigger number of tickets sold…

In this way paradoxically during an economic crisis the European basketball not only does not suffer losses, but it also increases the money that enter in the cash register. In Greece it managed to keep its main sponsors – Nike, Sportingbet and the Greek Ministry of culture and tourism. As an additional success we also have to mention the permanent contract with the Pilsen beer which until now was only a sponsor of the last year’s finals in Berlin.

The increase of the money that has to enter in the cash register of the Euro league also result in the increase of the money for the teams which take part in it. The amount they currently receive is 1 500 000 euro. However this is not all… The euro league contracted better conditions of the contract for which in Greece is responsible BOLD and now it already is for 5 million euro which is 2 million euro more than what the channels were giving last year for the same product.

As far as it comes to the copyrights they will be sold in the summer for a period of 3 years and most probably the games packages will be purchased by the televisions new and ΣΚΑΙ.

Of course some unsolved problems still remain. One of them is the setting of a permanent hour when the games will be broadcasted. Another problem is that the sponsors express some skepticism as they do not manage to “dress” the fields only with their advertising materials (because they cannot make the hosts of the game take out the advertising materials of their sponsors).

It is also interesting how the problem with the tickets for the finals in Paris will be solved after the hall can only gather 14 000 people. For the fans of Makabi Israel has already purchased 2 500 tickets. On the other side a dilemma are facing the fans of Panathinaikos who have purchased 1000 tickets for the finals, however after the greens dropped out most of them are trying to “get rid” of them…
