The 24-hour strike of the Greek airport “Elefterios Venizelos” air-traffic controllers that is about to take place tomorrow, Saturday July 11, was claimed illegal by the court. The strike was threatening not to perform numbers of flights from and to Athens at the peak of the summer season, when the country is trying to do its best to attract as many tourists as possible.

The air-traffic controllers protest against placing ex-pilots from the bankrupted “Olympic” at positions in the Civil Aviation and insist that the Ministry of transportation solves the problems of air- traffic frequencies. The dispatchers claim that the frequencies are being very often disturbed causing problems with flights and warn that they will approach the Prosecution office with the problem.

Civil Aviation referred to court asking to declare the upcoming strike for illegal and harmful, as was later done. Meanwhile, the decision of the European Court, providing passengers whose flights have been canceled with the right to refer to whichever court within the European Union in order to receive their ?600 compensation, came to be known.
