The rumor had it these days that the main insurance office of Greece- IKA- is going to split into two departments. This was denied by Minister Fani Petralia, announcing that “the government’s policy is to support IKA’s two main pillars- the health insurances and the pension funds.”

There will be dividing of IKA into two sectors in order to improve its functions but they will both belong to the same social insurance office. Both sectors will have common administration.

Minister Petralia visited IKA’s offices and attended a meeting of the administrative council, headed by Teodoros Abadzoglou, regarding the bill that is about to be voted for in the Parliament during the summer.

Our wish is to support the health sector and improve IKA-polyclinics work. Besides that we would not like any overlapping of the functions of both sectors to be present, said Minister Petralia, adding that most Greeks have their insurances at IKA.

According to prime-minister Kostas Karamanlis the common administration will deal with health insurances and pension payments. In addition, it will keep track, control and assess spending in those directions by each IKA department in the country.
