Voker Jung, former head of the supervisory board of Siemens Hellas appeared in front of the examining magistrate Nikos Zagorianos, in order to provide depositions, because of the bribe and money laundering charges. His deposition was still in progress when it became clear that one of the lawyers of the former financial director of the company Christos Karavelas, Ilias Bisiyas explained for journalists that he is withdrawing from the defense due to discord in the way that it is held and also due to personal reasons. Though, he remains to be the lawyer of Christos Karavelas in Switzerland. The defense of the Karavelos family was taken by the famous lawyer and criminal law expert Sakis Kehayoglou, who was also defending Theo Theodoridis – the famous Greek model, who was arrested during an attempt to transfer big quantity of heroin in Greece.

“My clients are innocent and they do not have anything to do with the legal or illegal works of their father. Justice needs to immediately stop being subjective and to bring back its composure,” also said the famous Athenian lawyer in front of journalists. Sakis Kehayoglou announced that his first goal is to bring the biggest daughter out of the arrest and to lower the bail of the other two, which right now is one million Euros and is too much for the crime, with which they are charged.

Meanwhile, the former executive director of Siemens Ilias Georgiou was driven to the jail in Koridalos. Yesterday he had to give depositions in front of the examining magistrate but he refused. Former OTE director Georgios Skarpelis, who also refused to appear in front of the magistrate, remained in the Athenian arrest, because he had a mild stroke. The main characters in the court action Mihalis Christoforakos and Christos Karavelos are in Germany. Greece issued an international arrest warrant and the chief prosecutor in Munich has issued an order for them to be found and taken to the German authorities.

Except for legal the Siemens scandal has also diplomatic dimensions, because it turned out that the Foreign Ministry has delayed with three days to inform the Justice Ministry about the suspicious financial operations of Christos Karavelas in Uruguay. During this time he left Greece. On Saturday, May 23rd the foreign ministry received a letter from the Greek ambassador in Montevideo, who warned about the strange financial activity of the former Siemens financial director. Even though the letter is marked as “urgent” and “top secret,” foreign minister Dora Bakoyanni was informed on Tuesday, May 26th when she informed the Justice Ministry.

Right now, there is an internal department investigation in the Foreign Ministry, which aims to find out the reasons for the delay of the letter. Dora Bakoyanni took the political responsibility for the delay.
