Huge mark-up of private school tuitions

The Ministry of Education is planning to increase the tuition of the private Greek institutions and the most expensive are going to be the private elementary schools - ?11 000 for the 2009-2010 school year. Tuition for the private high schools will exceed ?10 500 and the private kindergartens will “only” cost ?8000. Of course, parents have the right to choose because the tuitions vary.


So, for example the tuitions for the elementary schools start from ?2070 per year and reach ?11 363 per year depending on the neighborhood, where they are situated, the offered school program, and the additional services they provide – sports, pools, etc. In Athens, the most expensive school, with the mentioned above price is “Collegio Athinon,” which is situated in the diplomatic neighborhood Psihiko and in Thessaloniki the most expensive school is Pinewood School of Thessaloniki with annual tuition of ?9930. Among one of the most expensive Athenian high school is “Doukas” with tuition of ?10 035 per year and in Thessaloniki, it is again Pinewood School of Thessaloniki, where the tuition is ?9930. In Athens, the most expensive kindergarten is “Moraiti” and its tuition per year is ?8240 and in Thessaloniki – “Kalfou Georgia” - ?5000 per year.
