The victims of the 6.3 magnitude earthquake are now 150. The quake shook central Italy on Monday morning. Rescue teams successfully dug out over 100 people in the historical town of L’Aquila. It is believed that nearly 250 more are buried under the rubbles.
Among those is also the 28 year old Greek student Vasilis Koufolias, who is under a pile of concrete, bricks, and rubbles. The boy was living with his sister Dianisia in a dorm close to the Municipal park in the city. At the moment of the quake his sister was lucky enough and managed to get away with minor injuries. Right now she is in the Peskara hospital. The information given out yesterday that the boy was keeping in touch through his mobile with the rescue teams was untrue. Yesterday, the mother of the two students Anna Koufolia left for Italy, where she stays right next to the rescue teams where her son can be.
All together, there are four Greek students who are in hospitals in central Italy. Another 160 came back to Athens yesterday with Olympic and Aegean. Today both airlines will continue flying Greek students out of charge.
Greek seismologists are watching the seismic activity in central Italy, where early this morning there was another 5.1 magnitude quake. The seismologists do not expect a direct influence to the seismic activity in Greece, because the shocks are different.
