Two policemen of the newly formed group SWAT team Delta became victims of a shooting a little bit after midnight in the Athenian neighborhood Kipseli. Both of them were answering a theft report about a car on 147 Skiatos street and then they saw a suspicious motorcycle. When they tried to ask the driver for his license and registration, another man, who was hiding behind a car close by, started shooting and injured one policeman in the head and the other one in the chest.

Both policemen were taken to the Red Cross Hospital, where they are being taken care of. The condition of one of them is critical and the other one serious. Both of them were born in 1979 and no names are reported yet.

Right now there is a police action for finding the criminals. The whole Athens center and the neighborhoods Kipseli, Galatzi, and Patision are blocked by the police. All Attika policemen’s days off have cancelled. The investigation was joined by the anti-terrorism services. The police do not exclude any possibilities, including terrorism.
