Again African dust in Greece

From today until Tuesday Greece will be under the shadow of a huge cloud of African dust, which is brought by the stormy south wind. In the following two days, the temperatures in the country will be around 20C, unusual for the end of March, but there will also be strong south winds, up to 8 Beauforts accompanied with muddy rain. Meteorologists warn for fogs during the early hours of the day.

“We are talking about an unusual phenomenon, which will form under specific conditions. When the weather is rainy, the fine African dust falls in the form of muddy rain. The unusual increase of temperature for the season, the strong winds, and the high humidity are the reason for the flecks of dust from North Africa to remain high in the atmosphere and to give a matte-milky shade to the air as though it is going to rain,” says meteorologist Vasiliki Kotroni for Vima newspaper. “This is a normal phenomenon, without negative consequences for the human body. People with long-term breathing problems, such as asthma can have trouble during that period but only if they get overly tired,” says pneumonia professor Panayotis Beharakis.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the winds will remain stormy but they will change their direction and will bring lower temperatures.
