Yesterday, in the center of Athens there was a real war between Afghan and North African immigrants. It all happened in front of the eyes of stunned people, who were daring to walk by through the drug region. Everything started in the early afternoon, when a Moroccan and Algerian gang hurt an Afghan with a knife and took his money. Then, around 40-50 Afghans started a revenge, which sadly affected every passing by Moroccan. They broke several stores, owned by North Africans, they also entered apartment buildings where Moroccans live.

At that point, the police and the SWAT team came, who arrested 5 people and things seemed to have calmed down. After the police left, it was the Moroccans’ turn to revenge every Afghan who appeared in front of their eyes. The troubles continued until late last night. According to the police, the fight is for dividing the drug region in the historical center of Athens. Drugs are the “specialty” of the Afghan immigrants and the North Africans have the “pocket-picking” sector.

The police have arrested 19 people – 6 of them are Greeks and 13 foreigners. During a police action in Thessaloniki yesterday, the police arrested 67 people. 50 of them are Greeks, sought for different crimes and 17 are foreigners with illegal documents.
