More than 100 000 women, working in the public sector will be obliged to work between 5 and 7 years longer than until now. This is a decision of the European Court, which is in connection with equalizing the age limits and it is supposed to be agreed on today. This decision will affect employees who have started work after January 1st 1983 and before December 31st 1992. Mothers who have children under age and who have started work after January 1st 1993 will have to work between 6 and 10 years longer. From those categories are excluded all mothers who do not have minors, because common age limits with men apply to them too. The same goes for all other women who answer all requirements for retiring but continue to work, in order to get a better pension.

It is believed that around 150 000 women will become victims of the new regulations – all those who have been hired after 1993. It has been calculated that they will have to work between 5 and 17 years longer and the prognosis is that this regulation will provoke a wave of resign applications, which will have unforeseen consequences for the state insurance funds. Women will be forced by the circumstances to retire and get a pension of less than ?60, which will force the funds to pay more than ?2 billion.

On the other hand, the decision of the Election Committee treated unjustly a man working in the Ministry of Economics and this gave a green light for retiring of men before they have made 65. The man went to court, because according to the law, he could retire at 62 and his female colleagues retire at 60.  Awaiting the decision of the European Court, the Election Committee opened its doors to thousands of men and allowed them to retire earlier, based on the age limits, which go for men and women.
