Hillary Clinton denied to have invited the leader of the Cyprian Turks Mehmed Ali Talat to the State Department. This was said for “Kathemerini” newspaper by the president of the Cyprian American Federation Panikos Papanikolaou. “After our amain reaction and the right coordination, we achieved a positive result,” also said Papanikolaou. Mr. Panikos Papanikolaou is one of those Greek Americans who sent on Friday an open letter to the US president Barack Obama and vice-president Joe Biden with a call to interfere and cancel to upcoming meeting.  According to him, Hillary Clinton assured the authors of the letter that she does not intend to meet Talat, quite the opposite – she is insisting on meeting the Cyprian Foreign Minister Markos Kiprianos. The US Secretary of State will realize this meeting during her next visit to Europe, when she will be accompanying Barack Obama.

The Turkish newspaper “Hürriyet” claims that the Clinton-Talat meeting will take place. According to them the Cyorian Turks leader is invited by the US Secretary of State to participate in conference in Washingotn on March 31st but the exact hour of the meeting with Hillary, is not specified.

What is certain is that yesterday, Hillary accepted archbishop Dimitrios (on the photo) in the State Department. The meeting was arranged at lightning speed, after the information about Talat’s visit to the US came out. Dimitrios repeated the Greek stand point regarding the Cyprian problem, the name of Macedonia, and the rights of the Ecumenical Patriarchy in Istanbul. According to the archbishop himself, the Greek point of view will be taken very seriously from the US administration. Tomorrow, the leaders of the Greek American community will be accepted in the White House on the occasion of the Greek national holiday.
