A luxury SUV exploded this morning at 08:50am in the Athenian suburb Voula right at the moment when the owner inserted the key in the ignition and tried to start it. The explosion tore one leg of the man and seriously injured the other. He was taken to the nearest hospital with serious face traumas and in critical condition. The businessman is Atanasios Militzopoulos, 52 who is dealing with clothes and importing luxury bathing suits from Brazil.

During 2004 another explosive device was found in Militzopoulos’ car but he was not injured then. Back then and not the police believe that the reasons for the attacks are business disagreements. Different reasons are not ruled out.

Immediately next to the explosion there is a primary school and a communal kindergarten but thankfully there were no children in the yards at the time of the explosion. Only the director of the school was there, who personally helped put out the fire and provided first aid for the businessman. The explosion acted as an earthquake and the school did all procedures, which are done in such case. The region around the explosion remained closed until the early afternoon.
