Bank robbers killed a policeman

Armed bank thieves shot a policeman coldblooded in the Athenian neighborhood Nikia. The incident happened around noon in one of the branches of Bank of Cyprus. The 36 year old policeman, who was not working at the time of the accident, was on Davaki square. He noticed two armed bandits leaving the bank branch with money and started chasing them. After around 800 meters from the square to the corner of Hristos Matikas and Paraskevopoulou streets, one of the bandits turned around and shot him pointblank. Few meters away from the murder is the primary school in Nikia.


According to witnesses the policeman yelled at them to freeze. According to primary data the policeman was armed but did not use his weapon. He was wearing plain clothes and couldn’t take out his weapon from his bag. Most likely it was his official gun. The bandits, who were three and some witnesses mention a third one, managed to run away with a motorcycle, which was parked close by. The deceased was a father of a 40 day old baby.
