Greek police broke a child pornography network

Greek police discovered and broke a big channel for internet child pornography together with Interpol. The authorities arrested 24 people in Athens and Thessaloniki, 11 out of which were given to the prosecutor right away and will be sentenced within 24 hours. The other 13 are under investigation. The action went on for three months and during the frisks many porn video materials were found, including some with six months old babies. Among the arrested is also one archimandrite, who works in a church on Peloponnese – he was arrested in Athens.


The London police was the first one to track the traces of the internet pedophiles, which asked for the Greek cooperation through Interpol. After the permission of the prosecutor the tracks of 137 Greeks were traced over the internet. From them, 35 users have been intersected in forbidden websites, who were uploading porn materials with children. Finally, they were the 24 people arrested, who were entering those websites from more than one IP addresses.


The police have confiscated 28 hard disks, 8 laptops, many CD’s, which together were 28 000 gigabytes – all filled with child pornography. For now, the police believes that the recording of the materials has happened outside of Greece.
