Two weeks after the murder of 16 year old Alexandros Grigoropoulos streets are still filled with battling anarchists and policemen. There are fires, “Molotov” cocktails, tear and poisonous gas, and broken store windows. Saturday night a group of anarchists blocked streets around the Athens Polytechnio with trash cans. They attacked the police with “Molotov” cocktails, and from their side the police answered with tear gas.

Another group of youngsters blocked two central streets with their motorcycles – the corner of the office of the Finance Ministry. They broke in and set on fire the offices. Before leaving, they set on fire two luxury cars. In order to stop the fire, 7 fire trucks and 21 firefighters were needed.

In order for the Christmas tree to be saved on the “Constitution” square, which was burnt once before by the anarchists, the special police forces need to come. Several units had to make a chain around the tree and angry young people were throwing eggs, cakes, and even pig heads at it. Pedestrian witnesses said that the police was calm and waited till the last possible moment before they were forced to use tear gas in order to spread the crowd.

The occupations of the media institutions are continuing. Yesterday Best and En Lefko radio became the center of attention. Young people entered into a show in the National Theatre in Athens and after the recorded warning for the audience to turn off their phones, they raised a poster, which said “Now that you have turned off your phones, turn on your conscience.”
