Dispatchers canceled the announced for Sunday strike, but tomorrow begins the strike of truck and cistern drivers.

Despite the expectations that today no flights from and to Greece will be done, the flights today will be carried out without any problems, as dispatchers from the Union for air traffic in Greece cancelled the previously announced strike which was supposed to begin at midnight. On Friday it was announced to be illegal by the Athens Administrative Court.  In a release from the Union it was said that its members reject as a whole the bill of the Minister of Transport Dimitris Repas and note that they will proceed with protest actions, which will be announces in the following days in what form they will be.

Officials plan to follow strictly the international regulations for the airspace capacity by allowing passage only to a number of flights per hour, which is expected to cause delays in the flights. The dispatchers decision to proceed with the actions in the mid-summer caused acute effects from the tour operators, who noted that, after the protests of the port workers a few weeks ago, now it will finally be placed on the funeral stone of the Greek tourism. According to data from the Office for Civil Aviation, arrivals of foreigners for the first half of 2010 has decreased by 1.2% compared with those from last year.

Against the Bill of Dimitris Repas are opposed also the truck and cistern drivers, which from tomorrow will begin an termless strike. They are against the opening of the profession and the establishment of companies for road transport. Although the strike has been shecduled for August 27, the drivers have decided to start immediate rotest actions, which will cause problems in the supply of markets which is also not the best thing that can happen at the height of the tourist period.

Drivers blame the government that their country has sold the truck licenses on a triple price than those today. The criticized draft from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure was discussed and approved on Friday by the Council of Ministers. The road transport companies will be in the form of SA and Ltd and among the criteria for development of their activity are their economic means, professional qualifications and reputation on the market. Owners of old licenses will have a period of three years to adapt them to the new criteria.
