The historic building on Rigilis Street in the centre of Athens symbolizes the unification of New Democracy. Thousands of supporters of the Greek conservatives gathered there this evening to join efforts to achieve the coveted election victory. Party chairman Vangelis Meimarakis had invited two of his predecessors, namely Costas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras, who the crowd greeted with enthusiasm, Karamanlis with greater enthusiasm and Samaras with less.

The main slogan is "Greece goes forward." The demonstration began with a screening of a retrospective video of the major moments in the history of New Democracy, presenting all its leaders. The video was accompanied by applause, and after it finished, the building on Rigilis street was coloured in blue, the colour of the Greek conservatives.

Former Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, whose election loss brought Greece under the supervision of creditors and the programme for financial stability was greeted very enthusiastically by the people. He went among the demonstrators who surrounded him with enthusiasm too.

All polls show a very small margin between SYRIZA and New Democracy, which is within the statistical error, and the possibility of SYRIZA’s upward trend to go down is very high.

The culmination of the evening was marked by New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis who stepped onto the rostrum and said, "We continue together and with confidence. Politics needs both old people who carry on the tradition of a party and the young who are its future." According to him, emerging from the crisis requires the efforts of all and New Democracy is the party that can unite them, as it has contributed the most to the country's progress. "Let us not allow losing a single vote in the "voting of discontent". We have seen how much it has cost us in recent months," he said in conclusion.
