After long agony Olympiakos has finally found the man who could lead the football team up the ladder to success. This time the hopes of the white-reds come all the way from Germany. The name symbol of change and success is Ewald Lienen, coach of  Munich 1860. The German coach and Sokratis Kokalis agreed to a two-year contract and an annual pay of € 550,000 after a meeting at the offices of the team in Athens. After the management of Olympiakos and Lienen symbolically shook hands they will have to take only one decision. Who will be the assistant coach of the team. The German coach finds support in the face of Abdel Rabdan and emphasizes that he guarantees for him. Olympiakos, however, expressed certain doubts about Rabdan ...

This small disagreement did not overshadow the enthusiasm of the German coach. He did not hide his delight of the forthcoming work after his visit to Piraeus. He openly stated that it is an honor for him to work with a team like Olympiakos, with many requirements and fans. He said he knew the numerous problems that the white-reds have been facing over the last year and now coaches and players must do their utmost to lead the team to victory.

The official signing of the agreement is expected soon after he breaks his cooperation with Munich 1860.

The name Ewald Lienen is not new for the Greek football. He was the coach of Panyonios from 2006 to 2008 where his work was assessed as positive as a whole. He managed to lead the team one level up in the Greek Championship. Particularly successful for the German were the years 2006-2007. The team reached fifth place and participation in the UEFA Cup under his guidance. Thanks to the success Lienen was selected for the coach of the year 2007. During the next season, however, he failed to score points. Panyonios fell from the Turkish Galatasaray and Bordeaux from France. The start of the 2008-2009 with an average success led to cancellation of the contract in November 2009. One reason among others was the disapproval of the way of work in Panyonios.
