Motivation made V-Span become a part of Olympiacos

What lies behind the decision of Vassilis Spanoulis to move to Olympiacos camp? Although in what we believe is constant things are always relative. They are different when it comes to teams and sports. What does it mean to believe in a team? To believe in the “brand” or in the good sport? Or in the team that is on top? Players are certainly concerned about these issues. However, fans are even more concerned as the team is much more to them. They refuse to accept that their idols who swore in the colour of their T-shirt have passed to the other side and fight for laurels and success in the colour of the eternal enemy. They feel betrayed...

This is not how the players feel. Vassilis Spanoulis for sure as he did not stop to declare until recently how much he prized the greens. The basketball star does not care what the fans write in the blogs and prefers to concentrate on the turning he recently made.

After a long silence, he finally decided to talk about his transfer. He clarified in an interview with the Cypriot newspaper Kathimerini that he did not become part of Olympiacos because of the money but because of the strong motivation that the team gives him. The guard claimed that the decision to leave the greens and go to the red-whites did cost a lot. However, the terse style, in which the green star replied until yesterday made impression: “Everyone can speak whatever they want. People see things from their point of view. One can think and feel in the spirit of the team or otherwise. The truth is that motivation plays a huge role in my life and it was the reason to change my team.” Whether the decision was difficult, he reveals: “The decision was certainly difficult, but it is conscious. When we make a decision it is important to consider it very well before taking it ... It was not easy, it certainly embarrassed me. But now everything is fine.” The reactions of fans and the malicious comments did not bother the guard: “One would expect that this would happen. Fans have their newspapers, these reactions are logical. Unfortunately, you can not be loved by all in life... I respect all that. Everyone can express their opinion freely. I go on.” The star spoke about the journalists succinctly: “I am not the one to judge journalists. The people are doing their job” – said Spanoulis in a style that we rarely hear from him...

The transfer went through many vicissitudes. Spanoulis delayed his decision which at some point just grew and the player lost in his dilemma. In mid-July, after his silence made the media and coaches mad, the provident and wise actions of the management of Olympiacos and Dusan Ivkovich pulled the player to the surface...in their favour. V-Span signed a contract with the red-whites and the shirt he will wear three years will cost the club € 7.2 million. This is the end of one of the most dramatic summer series in which Olympiacos fought tooth and nail for the international guard and Panathinaikos lost its precious player.
