The video that "leaked out" from Kilkis, which shows how soldiers with tanks, dogs and other means deal with the numerous protesters, caused severe attacks against the government by the communists, the extreme left, but also the extreme right party.

In parliament, the Communist Party defined the drill as "extremely dangerous orientation of the military forces of the country", and a lawmaker from the left coalition SYRIZA asked what are the guarantees that those forces will not be used for the suppression of "public uprisings".

The military exercise under the codenamed Kalimahos was held on February 4th in Koromila Division near Kilkis by the 71st Airborne Brigade. In the script was included the provision of emergency humanitarian assistance to civilians within the actions for preservation of the peace and the participation of Greece in the multinational battle group of the European Union Helbroc BG.

In addition to these actions the published on the Internet video shows soldiers who act as a force to suppress the protest march, the participants in which are throwing stones and pieces of wood and other objects and shouting the slogan "We want peace" in English. According to some publications in Greek media on the posters were printed the slogan "Peace" and the name of the left coalition SYRIZA, which often appears in support of arrested for such unrest youths.

Deputy Minister of Defence said he was informed by the press for the carrying out of the specific drill. He stressed that he requested official information and has issued an order for the termination of the exercise.

According to Panos Beglitis in the country on a daily basis are carried out drills at a peripheral and local level for which the political leadership of the defense ministry is not being informed if they are of less importance.

The chairman of the party LAOS Georgeous Karadzaferis noted that "there is a difference between whether the Minister has been informed and the fact whether the drill is illegal or not". Deputy Minister of Defence responded that the political leadership of the department has not agreed, nor does it intend to agree in the future to the conduct of such NATO or European drills on the territory of Greek that affect domestic economic or social events.
