The three military C-130 successfully landed on the Athens airport Eleftherios Venizelos with 182 people on board. 155 of them are Greek citizens and the rest are foreigners. According to initial data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, four of them are Bulgarian citizens and the rest are of German, Portuguese, Spanish, American and British origin.

The three planes took off Tuesday morning from the military airport of Elefsina to bring back all Greek citizens wishing to leave the region of Alexandria in Egypt. The rescue mission was attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister Dimitris Dolis responsible for Greek citizens outside the country. He is also the coordinator of the operation.

According to the Athens News Agency, several adults and mostly women and children are among the arrivals in the Greek capital. The decision to leave was taken after the official announcement that Greece sent three airplanes to bring back to their homeland all who wish to leave the unfolding anarchy. The Consulate in Alexandria has established connection with the Greeks in the area and informed them of the operation. Most of the men in the families remained in Egypt to look after their homes and keep their jobs, said the arrivals.

"We felt that we were in danger. We heard gunshots in front of our houses. Our men armed with knives and wooden sticks to keep our property, " said for the Agency Ioanna Tsanakou who arrived with her husband and two children in Athens. Markela Maliara also a passenger of the rescue C-130 said she did not risk to stay after the terrible scenes of horror and violence.

The rescued citizens describe a picture of uncontrolled chaos caused not only by the rebels but also by pickpockets and criminals. People complain that their homes and their property as a whole falls a prey because of lack of order in the country. Moreover, it has become increasingly difficult to find vital products as food, water, and even cash in recent days.

Stigmalife reports that between 200 and 300 citizens of Greek origin who do not want to leave their homes remained in the region of Alexandria.
